Paper Piecing Card Designs

Paper piecing is a great way to get new and beautiful looks from your dies. For this project I am using Lynda Chapman's World of Paper Kaskad Folio colored cardstock. This cardstock is smooth and has a colored core perfect for craft projects like this.

Each package comes with 40 sheets, 8 colors - 5 of each and is 225 gsm. The package has a cut out corner that allows you to see the colors and on the reverse side there is template of the colors in the package.

There are 8 different packages of coordinating colors to choose from like Neutral or Bright as well as Fall colors. Something for every craft project.

For today's paper piecing I am using the bright colors in the green tones as well as a special sample made with Gilding Polish, Glitter Kiss and Luster Polish.

Let's begin by cutting out the components you will need to create these card. When you cut these out keep all the loose pieces together so you can piece the card together. You will have many left over pieces so you can make more than one card using this technique. For this card I cut out the die three times in dark green, light green and white. You will need a second white but this one will be cut out by extending the die so you can overlap the pattern.

First do a partial cut of the first three quarters of the die, realign the die to match the pattern and do another partial cut on the other side. Everything under the cutting plate will cut and the other part will not so make sure to not cover the whole die so that you can shift it and extend the die.

Now to assemble your card. I adhered the white die cut to a double sided tape paper cut to the same size. Then you simply piece the light green and dark green into the spaces. Once these are all adhered you'll use the extended die cut to overlap the pattern and shift it to the position you like. I used Sticky Specks to adhere this part. Trim off the excess. To finish off the background I cut out a square frame using Nobel Double Pinblah and adhered it to the background.

For the second card I used the light green for the base border the dark green and white pieces to fill in the spaces. I didn't cut out a layering piece to put over this card base, just a simple happy birthday sentiment.

The last card was made using some Gilding Polish in Ocean Teal well as Glitter kiss in the Lilac Frost Duo (just the purple) color and the Snow and Ice in the Luster Polish. I made it the same as the above card using the Quiltessentila Collection Rings die set.

I hope you give this technique a try and if you need some good quality paper to do it how about give these Kaskad papers a try as well.

Thanks for reading, until next project
